Course Description Introduction to basic concepts of numerical analysis, view of analysis concepts. Floating point representation of real numbers. Polynomial interpolation: Existence and unicity of the interpolating polynomial. Bounds on the approximation error. Newton's form for the interpolating polynomial. Composite polynomial interpolation. Methods for nonlinear equations. Fixed point method: sufficient conditions for convergence. Finite difference approximation of derivatives. Finite difference approximation of second order derivatives.Richardson extrapolation. Numerical integration methods. Numerical methods for ordinary differential equations. Numerical methods for linear systems. The linear, 1d advection-diffusion equation. Finite difference methods for the linear. Nonlinear conservation laws.
