Course Description The course provides a broad overview of pollution phenomena in the different environmental compartments. The Course starts providing some basic concepts about environment, pollution, development and sustainable development. Then the Course introduce to the acquisition of pollution data through the analysis and characterization of water and wastewater that are necessary to understand pollution of water bodies (river and lakes), The Course describes the pollution phenomena of atmosphere at different scales (global, regional, local) and how to get measures of the emissions affecting air quality. Production and composition of wastes, as well as chemical-physical analyses to define their characteristics will also be considered. Soil and its physical, chemical and biological characteristics will introduce to extent and causes of soil contamination, with some hints on the mechanisms that affect soil-contaminant interaction.
