Course Description The course provides to students the skills for the proper design and management of an automated and sustainable production system, with reference both to the process and discrete manufacturing industry. Particular importance is given to the strategic aspects (e.g. choice of the level of automation), managerial (e.g. choice of the rules of production management), ICT (e.g. choice of the information system) and sustainability. Finally, the most recent trends in Manufacturing are considered. The topics tackled regarding the sustainable manufacturing are going to be the following: the human-centric manufacturing, the energy efficiency, the life cycle assessment (LCA), the circular manufacturing paradigm, and the end-of-life management practices. Instead, the topics related to advanced manufacturing are going to be the following: Industry 4.0 technologies, Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS), Flexible Assembly Systems (FAS), and the production planning and control.
