Course Description The course aims at providing the students with fundamental criteria to design and optimize life support systems partially or totally sustaining vital internal organs functions. Insight into technology materials, energy sources and transfer, control features, with reference to application duration of the support will be given together with the evaluation of the patient to machine interaction. Differences among intra-, extra-, para-corporeal systems and indication to use with reference to the kind of application and implant duration will also be discussed. Hints will be given about international regulatory standards.
