Course Title MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS ENGINEERING II
Course Type Mono-Disciplinary Course
Credits (CFU / ECTS) 5.0
Semester First Semester
Course Description The course provides a framework, quantitative methods and competences to evaluate the performance of production system considering their configuration and their control. On the basis of the type of and of the characteristics of the manufacturing systems considered (flow shops, job shops, flexible manufacturing systems, manufacturing lines, reconfigurable manufacturing systems), various analytical models are introduced and applied. These models allow to understand the nature of the phenomena happening in a real system (blocking, starvation, bottlenecks, failures, repairs, performance degradation, quality at system level) and lay down the basis for the optimal design of manufacturing systems. The methodologies and tools studied in the course are applied within a Project lab to a realistic case study. The Project lab is part of the innovative didactics program of Politecnico di Milano.
