Course Description The course aims to make students understand how the automation and digital technologies (e.g. Industry 4.0) can contribute to the sustainable and circular transition of the manufacturing sector, both in the process industry and in the discrete manufacturing systems. The students will learn how to analyse the context to select the best technology, the best application scenario and the proper approach to involve the workforce in order to ensure a sustainable transition of a manufacturing company. The impact evaluation will also be inestigated in order to give students the know-how on how to understand the sustainable related-impacts of their decisions. Among the topics tackled there will the human-centric manufacturing, the energy efficiency, the life cycle assessment (LCA), the circular manufacturing paradigm, and the end-of-life management practices.
