Course Description This course is intended to give students a chance to reflect on the ethical, social, and cultural impacts of power systems by focusing on the issues faced by and brought about by electrical engineers. The following topics will be addressed: Privacy and privacy-preserving analysis of energy data. Security both at the individual and national level. Equity: equitable pricing and affordability of access, and fair distribution of costs and benefits. Environmental sustainability. AI/ML techniques and Big Data analytics for the smart grid. Social acceptance issues. This integrated course includes lectures by two instructors with complementary expertise at the intersection of technical and socio-ethical issues, and invited lecturers, covering specific topics.
