Course Description The aim of the course is to give the basic principles of the radiation protection. Therefore quantities in use and their units must be described. Since all the radiation effects on man are due to the interactions radiation-matter, here the principle interaction processes will be described, underlining their relative weight as a function of the material, kind of radiation and its energy. Then the instruments and dosimeters most used in radiation protection will be described, showing the physical principles in the detection processes. Finally, individual protection techniques for the reduction of the exposure to workers and the national law in force will be illustrated.
