Course Description The aim of this course is to highlight topics reguarding metals, alloys and superalloys for high performance applications toghet with an in deep examination of tradition materials for structural application and mechanical system. Main topics will deal with sintered materials and sintered steels for tool applications, coatings and claddings for surface engineering, metal matrix composits. With respect to traditional materials there will be topics on alloys for high and low temperature applications, wire materials, maraging steels, special cast irons and non ferrous alloys for high performance applications. A special attention will be given to service degradation and failure analysis of materials and components. The course programm is completed with practical application to failure analysisi case studies. Synthesis of the subjects Metals, alloys and superalloys for high performance applications, sintered materials and sintered tool steels; metal matrix composits; surface and coating engineering; degradation and service failure of structural materials and mechanical system; failure analysis and control methods.
