Credits (CFU / ECTS) 6.0
Semester Second Semester
Course Description The course aims to make students acquire the knowledge in terms of legislation, methodologies and basic theories for safety analysis and risk assessment in different aviation environments, within a framework of "Safety Management System". Firstly, the methods for the quantitative risks assessment of hazards associated with flight operations, ground operations, and maintenance processes are analyzed and described in detail. Then, the formal methodologies for retrospective studies of the occurrences and accidents, aimed at the definition of the root causes and development of recommendations, are presented. All theories are framed in a systemic approach, which provides an integrated qualitative and quantitative perspective of the risks resulting from mechanical failures and human factors. Specific issues, such as prevention and protection from acts of terrorism ("security") and management of emergencies in the event of a serious accident, are also addressed in some detail.
