Course Description Aerial legant (gypsum and lime). Hydraulic legnat (Portland cement and other cement). Hydration of cement, porosity of cement paste. Concrete: constituents (aggregates, water and additives), properties of fresh concrete (setting time and workability), properties of hardened concrete (compressive strength and shrinkage), special concrete (SCC, HPC, WLC, FRP). Ceramic materials: crystalline structure and chemical bond, properties (mechanical and thermal), statistical analysis of mechanical strength, production, application. Fine ceramics: properties, production, application. Glass: chemical structure, properties, thermal shock, production and application. General aspects of corrosion. Wet and dry corrosion. Electrochemical mechanism. Reactions of corrosion: anodic and cathodic processes; Faraday law. Thermodynamic aspects. Pourbaix diagrams. Kinetic aspects. Evans diagrams. Factors related to metal corrosion. Forms of corrosion: generalized corrosion, galvanic contact, pitting, crevice corrosion, corrosion interference, etching, intergranular corrosion, turbulence corrosion, abrasion and friction, stress (stress corrosion cracking), corrosion-fatigue, hydrogen corrosion, microbiological corrosion. Methods of prevention and protection. Methods for measuring the corrosion rate.
