Physical balance in isolated systems. Balance of matter, energy and entropy in isolated, closed and open systems. Equations of state. Ideal gas. Real gas and phase transitions. P-V diagrams. Cubic state equations. Equation of the corresponding states. Thermodynamic properties of pure fluids. Residual functions. Fugacity. Balance between phases in single-component systems. Phase rule. Thermodynamic properties of mixtures. Partial molar quantities. Ideal mixes. Non-ideal mixtures. Balance between phases in mixtures. Chemical equilibrium in reagent systems. Constants of equilibrium and free reaction energy. Material and energy balance in open reagent systems.
