Course Description The course has as its objective the analysis of the built heritage, and raises several methodological and theoretical aspects of the problem with a multidisciplinary approach rigorously. In particular, recognized the complexity of the problem, we will harmonize the various cultural contributions to develop the analysis and understanding of the historical artifact, the understanding of his state of physical deterioration and functional and, therefore, come to design strategies for its preservation. The activities carried out, applied to a plant proposed by teachers, will lead the reading of the building and its evolution and functional morphology, diagnosis of the general state of deterioration of structures and materials, as a possible choice of methods, from specific surveys in situ. For granted the basic tools for defining the mechanical behavior of materials and structures, ex cathedra lessons you will study diseases and structural instability of historic buildings and technical specifications for consolidation. Particular attention will be devoted to analyzing the character of the historical construction and material, to recognize the construction techniques, structural elements and their functions, materials and their physical and mechanical properties, the possible state of structural degradation, the behavioral characteristics in the climate and microclimate, to highlight features and vulnerabilities, and stressing the specificity of the draft conservation and reuse, an essential phase for the protection of the asset.
