Course Description Principles, technologies, electronics and applications of temperature sensors, strain gauges, piezoelectric sensors, capacitive and inductive sensors, vacuum and solid-state photodetectors. Signals and noise, time-domain and frequency-domain treatment. Correlation functions and power spectra. Sources, types and statistical models of noise. Signal-to-noise ratio (S/N). Linear filters with constant or time-variant parameters. Gated integrator. Boxcar integrator. Sampling and averaging. Optimal filtering. Problems with 1/f noise. Baseline restorer. Lock-in amplifier. Analog-to-digital conversion (ADC): principal ADC types, effects due to integral and differential nonlinearities and to quantizing and quantization cell profile. Examples of electronic and optoelectronic apparatus for measurements of waveforms and spectra.
