Course Description The course aims to introduce the basics of the quantum description of molecular materials, to foster the understanding of their applications in nanotechnology. Main subjects: Born-Oppenheimer approximation and interatomic potential; molecular conformations; electronic structure, orbitals and mean field theory; LCAO approximation; normal modes of vibration in polyatomic molecules; vibrational spectroscopy (IR, Raman); electronic spectroscopy (UV-Vis). Introduction to conducting polymers and their use in molecular electronics; charge carriers and doping; excitons.
