Course Description Starting from the crisis of classical physics the course aims at giving the fundamentals of quantum physics needed to describe the microscopic behavior of matter and to understand the occurrence of new phenomena. The description includes fundamental concepts (wave-particle duality, wave function, uncertainty and exclusion principle), Schroedinger equation, quantum operators, stationary states, bound and unbound states, quantum statistics, density of states and some hints to atomic physics. Particular attention is given to the change of properties occurring when a system is confined at the nanoscale level.
