Course Description The course aims at giving the student the opportunity to actively obtain state-of-the-art knowledge about Safety Engineering and Occupational Health Safety Management in industrial systems. A student that has passed the course shall have learned: principles, processes and methods for Safety Management; how to design and implement preventive and protective measures against most common hazards in manufacturing workplaces; how to adopt ergonomics principles in workplace design within TQM and Lean programmes; how to involve workers in continuous safety improvement programmes and promote safe behaviours. The acquisition of abilities on quantitative techniques and multi-objective problem setting are emphasised thanks to class discussion, solution of realistic engineering and managerial problems, the involvement of testimonials from industry and the development of a project assignment.
