Course Description The course provides theoretical and practical skills about the most recent methodologies for systematic innovation of product and processes and is subdivided in two modules. The first module provides theoretical and practical skills about the most recent methodologies for systematic innovation of product and processes and inventive problem solving techniques. More in details, it covers a range of techniques and tools supporting technical creativity, starting from psychological methods, their potentialities and limitations. Then, the TRIZ theory is presented in details, with practical examples to be run both individually and as teamwork. As a comple-mentary toolkit, the course will introduce also fundamentals about Biomimetics and techniques for sustainable innovation. Eventually, emerging Computer-Aided Innovation (CAI) systems will be presented, with details about their main features and integration opportunities with other PLM systems. The second module is subdivided into two parts. The first one is dedicated to a survey of the main mechanisms characterizing the competition between alternative technologies, the main models describing the dynamics of innovation and to a detailed description of the most recent technology forecasting methodologies. The second part of the module concerns the usage of patents as a source of technical information for competitive intelligence and information extraction supporting innovation activities. This part of the program covers Intellectual Property fundamentals and patentability criteria; it provides theoretical and practical skills for patent search and patent analysis, both through manual and computer-based tools
