Course Description The course will explore, through a theoretical excursus, case studies, workshop and debate sessions, this fascinating complexity that characterize the discipline of Service Design. Service Design is a recent, fast growing and evolving discipline. Emerged in the '90s as design contribution to a changing context, where the value creation and exchange within the society and in the economy was moving toward a more intangible dimension, today, according to many influential voices, it is definitely turned into a paradigm of the contemporaneity, and an indispensable part of the culture of any designer. Services result from the co-design of different competences, converging into a common ground and with a common aim. What's the role of service designer? Services affect behaviours and lifestyles more than products: they can be crucial in changing habits, in 'de-materialize' people's lives, in creating new social and productive networks. This sounds unquestionably interesting from the perspective of sustainability, and opens up a great design challenge about quality, satisfaction, good experiences.
