Course Description Introduction to systems and control engineering. Oriented systems; nondynamic systems; dynamic systems: state-space and input-output forms; equilibria; tangent linear model at an operating point. Time-domain analysis of linear time-invariant systems; the stability problem: stability of motion vs. system stability; stability criteria; canonic responses. Basic signal analysis: Laplace transform, Heaviside method and dominant poles; Fourier transforms. Frequency-domain analysis of linear time-invariant systems; transfer functions; canonic decomposition and system stabilizability; realization of a transfer function; analysis of systems described by a block-diagram; frequency response. Control problems: an overview. Industrial regulators; empirical tuning rules. Linear time-invariant control systems; stability and precision analysis; performance specifications. Basic control system design in the frequency domain; model-based tuning of industrial regulators. Nonelementary control architectures: feedforward control, cascade control.
