Course Description Main objective of this module is to provide basics related to the architecture, morphology, and functions of mechanical plants, machines and devices. It comprehends two complementary sections/parts. The first one introduces the fundamentals on computer-aided methodologies and tools to design machine and devices components. In detail, followings topics will be presented: solid and surface modeling, visualization techniques, parametric modeling, assembly modeling, simulation techniques and data exchange.The second part deals with the dynamic behavior of the mechanical systems (single devices, complete assemblies, machines). The methodologies for the definition of the equations of motion, including the friction effects too, and there resolution, are presented. The important class of the motor-transmission-user assembly is considered with particular attention, considering specifically their mechanical characteristics (torque-rotating speed relationship), with reference also to the investigation on the operating conditions (transients, rated speed, periodic speed fluctuation).
