Course Description The course provides the specific tools for the thermo-hydraulic analysis of the core power channels and for the thermo-mechanical analysis of the most relevant structural components of a nuclear reactor. On this basis, with reference to the nuclear regulatory specifications and to the behaviour of the reactor materials under irradiation, the course offers a thorough description of the manufacturing and technological issues concerning the preliminary design and sizing of some typical components of nuclear power plants (fuel assemblies and fuel rods; pressure vessel and thermal shielding; primary containment; coolant pumps, pressurizer and primary piping; heat exchangers), taking advantage of several exercises of "design by analysis".
