Course Description Learning objectives: The course aims at providing the competences needed while managing the introduction and the evolution of production systems. The characteristics of the system that are relevant when considering evolving contexts are defined and methodologies and tools are provided to manage the system configuration and the continuous changes both at a single machine level and at a system level. Contents: Flexibility, reconfigurability and modularity at machine, system and network enterprise level. Examples of flexible and reconfigurable systems. Methods to compare alternative system architectures, Analitical Hierarchy Process (AHP). Stochastic Programming techniques to plan system evolution under uncertainty. Markov chains, queuing networks, approximate analytical tools and simulation for the design and improvement of Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems (RMS). Gradient based and perturbation analysis techniques to optimize system performance. Hours: lectures: 60 h, classworks: 40 h, laboratory activities:
