Course Title WIND ENGINEERING
Course Type Mono-Disciplinary Course
Credits (CFU / ECTS) 6.0
Semester Second Semester
Course Description The aim of the course is to provide to the student the skills to deal with the wind-structure interaction. At the beginning, the models used to define the wind characteristics will be analyzed, providing the basics of physics of the atmosphere and of statistics to describe the flow field in the natural atmospheric boundary layer. Then, the fluid-dynamic aspects induced by the presence of bodies in the flow will be investigated, defining the fundamental parameters for the bluff bodies and wing-like bodies. The common wind engineering problems will be described within the specific normative context. The fluid-structure interaction will be studied using numerical and experimental models developed for the vehicles dynamics, the sail ship dynamics, the dynamics of large structures (tall buildings, long span bridges) and wind turbines. The scaling rules and the techniques to design and perform wind tunnel tests will be also provided during the course.
