Course Description The elastic problem for one-phase continuum, isotropic and anisotropic elastic laws. Coupled hydro-mechanical problem for two-phase porous continua: balance principles, mass balance, momentum balance. Modelling the mechanical behaviour of materials: elasticity, visco-elasticity, elasto-plasticity, damage. Examples of elastic-plastic models. Mechanical behaviour of soils: Mohr-Coulomb with hardening and Modified Cam-clay. Calibration of constitutive parameters. Fundamentals of Finite Elements for mechanical problems: displacement approach. Formulation of finite element for 2-D problems. Isoparametric elements. Introduction to finite element solutions for non-linear problems. Application of finite elements to geotechnical problems. Solution of typical problems in geotechnical engineering: soil displacements, seepage, consolidation.
