Course Description Introduction to Lab on Chip, uTAS and MEMS. Fabrication Techniques for integrated Microsystems: Lithography, silicon based MEMS, microfabrication techniques in plastic and polymer (hot embossing, injection molding, casting, laser ablation, milling); packaging techniques (wire bonding, wafer bonding...). Lab Ob Chip's Functional elements: introduction to microfluidics, microfluidics elements (Micropumps, valves, mixers); optical detection systems and integrated optical elements (waveguides, emitting devices, detectors). Application examples. Applications: microarrays, capillary electrophoresis, DNA extraction techniques, DNA amplification and detection (PCR, RTPCR), microreactors. Lab work: project design with CAD tools (basic rules, CAD system, practical applications). Lab on Chip: instrumentation. Fluorescence detection systems, introduction to microscopy techniques. Analog front end: introduction and practical activity. Microsystem Characterization: introduction to lab instrumentation for parametric characterization.
