Course Description Each machining process will be introduced by a theoretical/practical class lecture and deeply studied by experimentations targeted to understand the main steps towards the industrial application of the process and to verify its performances using typical research methods. Macro- and micro-turning, -milling, -drilling: measuring of cutting forces, tools geometry, workpieces, G code and CAM, lobe diagram. Laser machining: measuring of power, optical emission, emission spectrum, results characterization by means of metallurgical and microscopic analyses. Water jet machining: measuring and control of the abrasive mass flow rate, measuring of water jet velocity, pressure and flow rate for diagnostic purposes, geometrical characterization of workpieces, jet structure observation. Ultrasonic welding: vibration amplitude and tangential force measuring, metallurgical and mechanical characterization of welded specimens.
