Course Title STRUCTURAL FASTENERS
Course Type Mono-Disciplinary Course
Credits (CFU / ECTS) 6.0
Semester Second Semester
Course Description The course deals with theory and design of connections between structural elements. Attachment of non-structural elements (e.g. fašades) is also addressed. The behavior of steel-to-steel and concrete-to-concrete connections is initially recalled. Fastening systems for steel-to-concrete and steel-to-masonry connections are subsequently introduced. The following topics are included in the lectures: derivation of forces acting on fasteners according to both elastic and plastic approaches, structural behavior of headed fasteners and post-installed fasteners, design of supplementary reinforcement, special provisions for seismic design, fire resistance, experimental procedures for assessing and judging the fitness of fasteners for an intended use. The students will also be introduced to experimental analysis through practical experiences in the fastening laboratory. Finally, the students may have the chance of applying for internships in the fastening laboratory or in external companies supporting the course.
