Course Description The course presents concepts and practices related to advanced building envelopes. The course will focus on engineering materials commonly used in the building envelope, dealing particularly with their mechanical, chemical and physical properties, detailing durability performances. The main components of building envelopes will be presented, including dynamic and interactive facades and their construction details. Mechanical modelling of glass will be introduced during the course as well as modelling of thermal performance of facades. Other topics will be the integration in the building envelope of the use of renewable energy resources and shading strategies and techniques against overheating. Lessons will be integrated with a series of practice exercises, seminars and visits on site.
