Course Title FUNDAMENTALS OF INTEGRATED BUILDING DESIGN
Course Type Mono-Disciplinary Course
Credits (CFU / ECTS) 9.0
Semester Second Semester
Course Description The course will introduce students to basic engineering design principles and problem solving to use resources effectively in the design and construction of buildings. Along with presenting preliminary design tools, assessment methods, protocols and good practice guides, the course also provides a conceptual framework for the assessment of the different aspects considering both horizontal (interdisciplinary) and vertical (life cycle-related) integration. The teaching method includes a design exercise that relates this knowledge to the design process and gives the student experience with practical design problems. The design activities are conducted by students in groups under the close direction of a tutor. In this integrated activity, the expected learning outcomes are mainly concerned with considering a united whole environmental (site and sustainability), social (function, symbolism, well-being) and technical (construction, structure and services) aspects of building design.
