Course Description GENERAL ASPECTS General criteria of design. Construction modalities: cast in situ and prefabricated structures. Serviceability limit states: deformation, durability, thermal dilations and foundation settlements. Redistribution capacities and robustness of structures. Joints and connections. thin roofings. Fire resistance. Choice of design solution: examples of carried out structures. P/C, STEEL, MULTI-LAYER TIMBER and CEMENT-BASED FIBRE REINFORCED STRUCTURES Prestressed concrete members: fundamentals of pre-tensioned and post-tensioned P/C beams; flexure, shear, bond, anchorage zones, cracking, losses; analysis under service and ultimate loads; continuous beams; optimum layout of the tendons; fundamentals of P/C beam design. Limit points. Example of a P/C beam computation. The redundant P/C structures. Bending moment vs. curvature response. Materials characterization tests, constitutive laws, cross section typologies, plastic hinges and redistribution design. Design of welded and bolted connections.
