Course Description The purpose of the course is to develop a deep, critical knowledge of the problems and methodologies of project development in the reuse and restoration of buildings. The most important themes of the course will therefore be determined by the final use of the building, the definition of the quality objectives in the reused building, the design quality control, the development of the technological design with the goal of reaching an implied high quality level while respecting requirements regarding the intended use of the building. In other words, the objective of the course is to apply the quality oriented methodologies to the building restoration, according to specific requirements set forth by the decided final use. The purpose of the course is the detailed analysis of issues and methodologies aimed at quality in reuse of buildings. This will be made by developing a design at the preliminary, final and detailed level for the rehabilitation of a disused buildings.The students, organized in small design teams, will face design issues regarding the definition of functions compatible with the morphology, the structure and the physical state of the existing building.They will also control the relationship between form, function and materials of the old building and the new one, and they will develop the technological design in order to ensure the quality levels required by the new functions of the building.
