Course Title MANAGEMENT OF COMPLEX PROJECTS
Course Type Integrated Course
Credits (CFU / ECTS) 6.0
Semester Second Semester
Course Description Complexity of projects, be they a big infrastructure, a research project, an innovation in a manufacture process or a new product, has been continuously increasing. This is due to several reasons: the numbers of actors and competences involved in a project, the need of integrating different technologies and competencies, the difficulty in assessing its costs and impacts both in the short term both in the long run. So, the ability to manage complex projects will be more and more important. The teaching course will tackle the main areas of the project management: 1. Definition of "complex project" and identification of its characteristics; 2. Modeling of decision process; 3. Implementation of decision process: identification of decisional, endogenous and exogenous variables; determination of project options (trade-off); 4. Methods and tools to choose among project alternatives; 5. Project planning: phases of project design and project implementation, the role of Project manager, organisation, planning and control tools; 6. Risk management and tools to deal with unexpected changes in plans; During the lessons real cases will be presented and discussed as examples; students will be grouped into small teams to apply concepts about project management on projects of a building or multiple buildings.
