Course Description The course has the learning objective of developing the knowledge of the main production processes in industrial manufacturing systems. Each technology and / or process will be developed by providing a description of the basic principles and key areas and industrial application sectors, highlighting the main applications, the production tasks and the manufacturing results. In the introduction, the general characteristics of the foundry processes, plastic deformation and material removal processes are examined, in the context of genral transformation technological systems. The main processing operations of thermoplastic polymers are also examined, such as: extrusion and production of fibers, sheets, cables, filming, calendering, injection molding, thermoforming and blow molding. Other topics covered are: mixing processes, shrinkage and orientation, residual stresses, special technologies and processing, surface treatments, curing and vulcanization processes for thermosetting polymers and rubbers. Finally, the solidification processes of metallic alloys aimed at the production of intermediate and advanced mechanical components are treated. The student will also learn how the basic concepts of solidification should be interpreted and applied in order to properly size the welds, to correctly select the welding technologies and to choose and set the correct operating parameters.
