Course Description Historical introduction physical quantities, thermodynamic systems and their properties, thermodynamic processes. Equations of state. The first law of thermodynamics in closed and open systems, specific heats ,internal energy and enthalpy. Evaluation of the work in reversible processes, stationary processes and stationary flux apparatus. The second law of thermodynamics, thermal motors, refrigerating machine and heat pump., efficiencies and Coefficient of Performances, Carnot cycle and theorem, entropy definition, entropic balance and entropy variations. Thermodynamic cycles,: Carnot cycle as reference cycle, cycles for internal-combustion engines, steam cycles. Heat transfer modes. Conduction: Fourier's law and Fourier's equation, steady state thermal conduction through flat , cylindrical and spherical bodies. Thermal resistance and thermal resistance nets. Forced convection on flat surfaces, cylindrical tubes and spheres. Fluxes inside tubes, evaluation of convection coefficients, pressure drops. Elements of heat transfer by radiation . Elements for heat exchangers design.
