Course Description The course aims at providing the techniques for applying and measuring radiation beams and fields in X-ray and electron radiation therapy and in hadron therapy. For this purpose, topics about radiation physics and radiation biology are treated in the first part of the course. Afterwards, the main emission diagnostic techniques (PET e SPECT) are discussed together with the employed detectors and instrumentation. Subsequently, the principles of operation of particle accelerators applied in radiation therapy are discussed. Finally the techniques of dose delivering are presented and discussed. The measurement and dosimetry of several radiation fields is the matter of the experimental laboratories which are given during the course. Microdosimetry techniques for estimating the quality of radiation therapy fields are treated with particular emphasis.
