Course Description The course deals with instrumentation and related electronics, with the aim to provide tools for choice and design of acquisition chains, from the sensor to the front-end electronics to the A/D converter. Briefly, the program involves:Sensors: general characters, types of sensors and their working principles.Signal conditioning: requested functions and elementary schemes. The noise problem.Noise: interpherence and noise. Noise in active and passive components. Low-noise electronics: noise calculations in circuits, filtering and modulation.A/D conversion: converter parameters, available architectures and selection criteria. System integration issues: analog and digital processing, remote and on-board conditioning. Sensors and integrated circuits: integrated circuit technologies and application to sensors. Integrated circuits for conditioning and processing.
