Course Title PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY.
Course Type Mono-Disciplinary Course
Credits (CFU / ECTS) 5.0
Semester Second Semester
Course Description The course is intended to offer an overview of the legal implications related to the professional activity considered both from a civil and criminal perspective. Professional liability will be analyzed in the Italian legal order, considering the most important elements of contracts and obligations which an engineer might respect in his/her career to avoid responsibility. Although it is not frequent that a professional subject commits crimes, it is worthy to note that some cases could involve the technical expert as a defendant who needs to be aware of the consequences related to the legal proceedings: the course will briefly describe some (criminal) cases and their solutions/conclusions. Moreover, as international topics, the course will describe features of intellectual property (patents, copyrights) which are common to other legal systems, due to a number of treaties that regulate this field. Some lectures will better explain the role of the technical expert in legal proceedings with the aim of giving a basic knowledge of legal procedures and language. Finally, the course will consider some practical training through the evaluation of some real cases by the students, taking into account the experience acquired during the course.
