Course Description 1) Components. Controlled and non-controlled switches; transformers and reactors for the conversion, auxiliary components ("snubbers", inductors, capacitors for power factor regulation and filters). 2) General aspects. Real switches (characteristic curves; losses, control,¿); electrical and energetic quantities (average and rms values, harmonics, power, efficiency, power factor; switch thermal problems and cooling). 3) Line commutated a.c.-d.c. conversion. Single - phase and three - phase rectifiers, with different types of load, commutation, phase - control; harmonic analysis; twelve - phase converter. 4) D.c.-d.c. conversion.. Chopper; "buck", "boost", bridge converter. 5) D.c.-a.c. conversion. Two-level single phase and three phase VSI inverters: modulation; harmonic analysis; three - level VSI inverter; reversible inverters; a.c. - d.c. conversion with PF = 1.
