Course Description The course aims at completing the basics of nuclear engineering, given in module "A". The main goal of the course is to guide the students in gaining knowledge of the complexity of the nuclear system, from the nuclear power plant structure to the economics of nuclear electricity production. At the end of the course the student will be familiar with the basic terms of the nuclear engineering, required to duly follow the educational path in the nuclear engineering sector. Topics 1. Nuclear engineering for energy production: fast, liquid metal cooled reactor; innovative reactors; 2. Nuclear fuel cycle: open cycle, closed cycle; fuel enrichment methods; spent fuel storage, transportation and storage; temporary and final repository; 3. Nuclear reactors safety: main goals and principles; safety criteria; defence-in-depth principle; main safety systems; 4. Nuclear system economics: electro-nuclear costs.
