Course Description Aim: Acquisition of the principal methods for the solution of the Boltzmann Equation. Subjects: Derivation of the Boltzmann Equation. Integral and integro-differential form. Von Neumann expansion; Alfa and K Eigenvalue; Expansion in Legendre Polynomials; Pn and P1 Approximation; Diffusion Equation; Multigroup scheme; Numerical solution and modern codes. The adjoint equation. Physical interpretation of the adjoint flux. Perturbation Theory. The Monte Carlo method for the stochastic simulation of neutron and photon transport. The use of the Monte Carlo method with examples: random variables, sampling techniques, variance reduction techniques in weighted Monte Carlo. Monographic subjects: Fluctuations of the number of particles in a markovian system: Kolmogorov-Dmitriev branching stochastic model; Introduction to the analysis of random data and reactor noise.
