Course Title NUCLEAR TECHNIQUES FOR THE ANALYSIS OF MATERIALS
Course Type Mono-Disciplinary Course
Credits (CFU / ECTS) 5.0
Semester Second Semester
Course Description The objective of the course is to provide an overview of the various techniques which have been developed to investigate different classes of materials exploiting probes such as neutrons, ions and high energy photons. A broad overview will focalize on the physical principles of operation of several techniques. For selected techniques (with a certain flexibility about their choice) a more detailed treatment will be given, including the main aspects of the instrumentation, and a discussion of the possibilities, the limitations, and the typical applications. The basic aspects regarding the scattering events and the nuclear reactions, which are required to introduce these techniques, will be supplied, in order to offer a self-consistent course, also to students having different backgrounds.
