Course Details
ID Code 091737
Course Title NUCLEAR PHYSICS
Course Type Course Held At Another University
Credits (CFU / ECTS) 5.0
Semester First Semester
Course Description 1.The nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction in the bare space and in the medium. Reminder on simple nuclear systems and on the scattering. NN interaction and field theories. 2.Nuclear structure models: reminder about Hartree-Fock, pairing interaction and Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov equations, nuclear response to an external field (hadronic or electro-weak). Spherical and deformed nuclei. 3.Neutron- and proton-rich nuclei. Limits for the nuclear stability ("drip lines"): masses of unstable nuclei, density distributions, halo systems. Special features of weakly bound systems. Isospin symmetry. 4.Experimental techniques for the study of unstable nuclei: production and acceleration of radioactive beams. 5.Nuclear reactions: scattering theory, direct elastic and inelastic reactions, transfer reactions. 6.Nuclear physics and astrophysical processes: stellar evolution and nucleosyntesis.
