Course Description This course provides an overview of the basic concepts and of the recent developments of semiconductor detectors for radiation (from optical photons to X and gamma rays and charged particles). The topics discussed are: Interaction of radiation with matter - Charge transport, generation-recombination and charge multiplication mechanisms in semiconductors - Semiconductor detectors for energy and position measurement - Shockley-Ramo's theorem and computation of induced current shapes - Low noise readout architectures and processing techniques - Imaging pixel sensors - Advanced detector-amplification structures - Case studies of detection systems for frontier applications in science and technology.
