Course Description The elastic problem for one-phase continuum, isotropic and anisotropic elastic laws. Coupled hydro-mechanical problem for two-phase porous continua: balance principles, mass balance, momentum balance. Elasto-plastic behaviour of materials: examples of elastic-plastic models. Mechanical behaviour of soils and constitutive modelling, calibration of constitutive parameters. Fundamentals of Finite Elements for mechanical problems: displacement approach. Formulation of finite element for 2-D problems. Isoparametric elements. Introduction to finite element solutions for non-linear problems. Weak formulation of the coupled hydro-mechanical problem for saturated porous continua. Application of finite elements to geotechnical problems. Solution of typical problems in geotechnical engineering: ground settlements, seepage, consolidation.
