Kinetics and statistics of chain polymerizations. Control of molecular weight and microstructure. Copolymerization, control of composition. Examples of industrial production of polymers. Bulk and solution processes. Suspension polymerization process. Emulsion polymerization process. Advanced production technologies. Crosslinking and theory of gelation. Crosslinking chemistry. Reactive processing of thermoset polymers. Chemorheology, gel point determination, TTT diagrams. Rubber materials, structural requirements. Classical thermodynamics of rubber elasticity. Molecular theory of rubber elasticity (ideal rubber). Vulcanization, process monitoring techniques. Reactive processing of rubbers. Swelling behavior and density of crosslinking.
