Course Description The aim of the course is to introduce the future civil and environmental engineer to cartography and the use of geographic information systems, both of which have become indispensable support tools for the design of engineering work correctly inserted into the environment. The course also aims to teach the student how to use GIS (Geographic Information System) software to integrate basic and thematic maps, orthophotos and UAV / aerial / satellite images and geo-localized data in a single project. The course provides general information, applicable in all areas but, among the case studies selected as examples, those related to the analysis of environmental risks will be privileged. The main topics of the course are: Topographic maps; thematic maps; map production. Reference surfaces; coordinate systems; reference systems; map projections. Orthophotos and UAV / aerial and satellite images; digital terrain models Geographic Information Systems Software for Geographic Information Systems: QGIS and ArcGIS OpenStreetMap and collaborative cartography Geographic Information Systems and Environmental Risk Analysis
