Course Title STRUCTURAL REHABILITATION AND SEISMIC RETROFITTING

Course Description The Course is divided in the 3 parts. Part 1 : mechanical properties and related structural capacity and performance of the traditional material, i.e. masonry and wood; diagnostic tools for the in situ assessment of the material and structural degradation and actual remaining performance, with reference to significant building. Reference to investigation methods for steel and reinforced concrete are also provided. Critical approach to the implementation of each test and its reliability in different situation, as well as the interpretation of the results are underlying. Part 2 : Critical lecture on existing provisions and application for the assessment of structural capacity, by means of numerical analysis methods to state the safe coefficients, is developed, with the illustration even on some real case history; particular attention is given for seismic provision and conservation of architectonic heritage. Part 3 : laboratory test methods on material samples and structural prototypes, even full-scale, are illustrated, by attending also real test; capacity of comparison between the theoretical/numerical results of the building static behavior with the test performed and the real data relived will be developed.
