Course Description Building Physics is that part of the science that studies the topics of energy efficiency in buildings and environmental comfort. Its field of action is not limited to the study of buildings but also extends to the environment outside at the various territorial scales. The main purpose of the course is the study of the energy-environmental performance of buildings and the consequent connections with urban, architectural and plant design. The topics necessary for understanding the interaction of the external environment - building - internal environment, the exploitation of energy sources (in particular regarding renewable energy sources) and the satisfaction of comfort are discussed. The international legislative and regulatory framework is focusing in the last years, even in a mandatory way, the design choices in the building sector to an ever-increasing attention to the energy and environmental aspects of both new buildings, to almost zero-energy buildings, and those existing subjects to retrofit. The theoretical basis provided in this discipline are essential elements for a coherent approach to sustainable construction design.
