Course Title PLANNING THEORY AND PRACTICE
Course Type Integrated Course
Credits (CFU / ECTS) 12.0
Semester First Semester
Course Description The first objective of course is to critically explore the main international trends in planning culture, throughout the Twentieth century, in particular in the second half. The fist reference framework is the town planning tradition of the fist modernity, that has a variety of interpretations in Europe and in the United States, according to communitarian, rationalist or neo-liberal trends; large part of the planning culture has been conceived as a critique of these traditions, based on two main arguments: the limits of spatial (physical) planning, that neglects some crucial dimensions of the problem (social, economic, environmental, political ones); the limits of interaction and agreement among the institutions and the other actors involved.
